TIP: Razzle Dazzle Your Lemonade

When life hands you lemons, don’t just make plain, boring old lemonade.  Get inspired.  For Goodness sake, you’re not just scooping a cap full of that magic lemon dust in a canister (not that there’s any thing wrong with that)… YOU are going through the massive effort of measuring the sugar not to mention the lemon squeezing and ice and the stirring (see how ridiculous it is to use magic powder when the real thing is so durn easy?)…YOU can make lemonade so good everybody gets chill bumps and jazz hands.  You can razzle dazzle your thirsty summer drink seekers by the use of some super easy add ins- how?

Here’s how we do:

Step ONE

Get a basic homemade lemonade recipe.  There are amazing ones that involve making a simple syrup and citrus zesting and only the finest lemons from Napa Valley, but I’m presenting you with the most bare bones way I know to make what is essentially a blank canvas for the special ingredients anyway, by all means if you have a classier lemonade blueprint than this, use it.  For our easy-peasy version, dissolve 1 cup sugar in 4 cups water, stir in 1 cup fresh, or (if you are too lazy to squeeze a lemon, shame on you) lemon juice from a disturbing plastic yellow bottle in the shape of a lemon.  Stir it together.  Viola, your lemonade base.

Step TWO

Gather your add ins.  Here’s a link to get your creative juices flowing:  http://paddletheworld.com/z-Recipes/Lemonade%20Add%20Ins.htm  The sky is the limit. Be experimental.  If it tastes horrid flush it down the sink, it will freshen your drains.  🙂  For my 3 flavors I used watermelon, cucumber, and lime-coconut.  All I did for the watermelon and cucumber was to pulverize the add ins with some (about 2 cups) of the lemonade base, then stirred the blender mixture back with the plain lemonade in the pitcher.  For the lime coconut, I added in 1/2 cup lime juice and 1/2 cup coconut milk, no blender required.

Garnish and serve ice-cold in a pretty glass.  Or in a Dixie cup, whatever.  POOF.  You just made something amazing with minimal exertion.  Congratulations!  No lame lemonade on your watch.
